Richard D. Tortosa, MD
Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon & Hand Surgeon
Dr. Tortosa is a native of Northern California. He attended the University of California Davis, where he graduated with a BA Degree in Zoology. He completed medical school and his internship at the University of Southern California School of Medicine in Los Angeles. His orthopaedic residency was completed at University of California at San Francisco. Dr. Tortosa underwent sub-specialty training, completing two fellowships in hand surgery in San Francisco, one at the Sterling Bunnell Hand Fellowship and one at the University of California Hand Fellowship.
He has been in practice in the Yuba City area since 1980. He is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, board-certified hand surgeon, a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at UC Davis School of Medicine Department of Orthopedic Surgery, and attending surgeon at the Hand and Upper Extremity Clinic at University of California Davis School of Medicine.
He is a graduate of UC Irvine, receiving a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He attends many workshops and classes for problems of the upper extremity to keep up on the latest techniques for treatment of his patients. He is at the top of his field for hand and upper extremity surgery in Northern California. He is very committed to medical education and participates in teaching programs for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and at the University of California Davis.
His extracurricular activities focus primarily around his family. He is interested in many outdoor activities, such as camping, hiking, fishing and skiing. He is a member of the Yuba City Racquet Club, where he enjoys working out several days a week.
